ODU rugby enjoyed a week off from school only to come back to a short week of training before facing VCU. The training week was cut short and to make matters worse the first of two training sessions had the players daring a lightning storm and enduring a constant cold rain at the second session. Outstanding dedication and grit by the young team. Team Captain Jake Patterson opened the scoring up with a try just outside the goal posts and then easily converted. With plenty of scoring opportunities ODU men were plagued with ball handling errors due to the wet conditions. VCU was able to put through a penalty kick at the 31 minute mark and then a try due to a bad pass close the half leading by 1 point. VCU landed another penalty kick through the uprights adn then return the kick off for a hard charged try. ODU men were behind. With 15 minutes left in the match the determined and disciplined ODU men rallied with Kevin Marley finding open space and putting ODU back into the game. JP was able to convert the try for 2 more and then Jake Patterson scored another try. Kevin Marley closed out the day with the final try of the match and earning Man of the Match as well. Outstanding effort by scrumhalf John LeFevre for more than one try saving chase down and tackle. 26-16 ODU men are now 3-1. Home game next week as we take on DUKE.
